About Molly

Expertise

Hello! My name is Molly and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), based in San Diego, California.  I'm experienced in providing individual therapy to adolescents and adults, specializing in evidence-based interventions to support clients navigating anxiety, depression, eating disorders, family issues, chronic pain, substance abuse and life transitions to name a few. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), to address a wide range of mental health concerns with a compassionate and goal-oriented approach. I'm committed to collaborating with you to improve your long-term wellness!

Approach

I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy but also pull from Person-Centered Therapy, along with utilizing a Strengths-Based Approach, and Mindfulness. We can explore your goals and identify a treatment plan that will help you feel safe, collaborative and supported. Additionally, we can reinforce the positives in your life and focus on strengths instead of weaknesses, building the good in life instead of only focusing on repairing the "bad."

Focus

My style is a good fit for both adolescents and adults. I feel everyone has times in their life when social, emotional and relational challenges (to name a few), can make us feel stuck, scared and un-heard. Issues of anxiety, depression, life-transitions, eating disorders, self-worth and self-esteem issues, anger management, stress and substance abuse, can really impact us in a negative way. Gaining the skills you need to move forward can have a life-changing outcome that will help you to feel better and enable you to have better relationships with others and with yourself.

Our first session together

Starting therapy can feel both hopeful and nerve-wracking. Here's what your first session will typically look like so you can feel more at ease. We will talk about what brings you to therapy and what you'd like to get out of it. You can share as much or as little as you're comfortable with - this is your space, and we'll go at your pace. I'll explain how confidentiality works, including the limits, and answer any questions you have about the therapy process. I may ask questions about your background, relationships, work or school life, and any previous therapy or mental health experiences. This helps me to understand you better and tailor our work to your needs. We'll begin to identify some goals you might have for therapy - these can change over time. Whether you're seeking relief from symptoms, support during a life transition, or tools to cope, we'll start to explore together. By the end of the session, we'll talk about how therapy will move forward - how often we might meet and any initial ideas for how we can work together.
